Autumn is here. The season of cozy blankets, sweaters, golden leaves, and hot chocolate! My favourite season for reading. And I’m super excited this year, as I’ve joined reading energies with Sarah Reckman from Mentally Healthy Me in hosting our new Wholehearted Living Book Club! We can’t wait to read with you Brené Brown’s The Gifts of Imperfection. We hope it will lead to authentic living, wholehearted connection, and a journey of inspiration. During a pandemic, many of us feel isolated and disconnected. We hope that by reading together and meeting online, we can feel a sense of reconnection.
If you want to read with us, please sign up soon. Our last day for saving your space is October 23rd!

I am touched deeply by Brené Brown’s words below about how trying to reach our wholehearted destination is like walking towards a star. Last night I was in the school yard, in the deep heart of autumn, while my dog ran freely and happily around the large green space. The dark sky had a gauzy layer of white-grey cloud passing over, and the orange of the trees in the bright school lights, lit up a path towards what felt like beauty and greatness. I could understand Brené Brown’s words so well.
Brené Brown has two editions of The Gifts of Imperfection, and you can join us reading either one. Her first copy from 10 years ago, with a beautiful soft cover, and her new 10th Year Anniversary Edition is a lovely turquoise and gold, with an additional introduction note from the author, and some note pages for integrating what we learn. We will be following along with her ten Guideposts as a structure to our seven weeks together, learning and digging deeper around topics such as courage, compassion, connection, authenticity, and wholehearted living. Additional tools and inspiration we use can be found on Brené Brown’s website. This book was also featured on Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday and is a #1 New York Times Bestseller.

We plan to host a book club that is so much more than a book club–this will be an experience, a journey, and a chance for wholehearted connection and building community together. Sarah comes with social work experience, is a mama of two beautiful girls, and brings so much of her heart and community-building love. I come with a similar love for community, a librarian background, and my love of writing, reading, and leading book clubs. We hope together to host a really beautiful experience for you.
As Brené Brown says on her original edition of “The Gifts of Imperfection”: let go of who you think you’re supposed to be and embrace who you are.
