Sorrow + joy. I have woken up this morning to what feels like a new world. It rained last night. The temps are a little higher, the air feels fresher and wetter, and a bit of the snow has melted. And my heart is stirred up in so many ways. But most of all, I get to hang out with a sweet dog this week, and we both loved stepping out onto the back porch this morning in our bare feet, and smelling Spring in the air.
I have always been deeply sensitive to the seasons, sensing all the weather changes deep in my soul. I love them all, and they bring back nostalgic memories of every year of seasons changing. This morning was special because it was the meeting of winter and spring. The exact moment when one interacts with the other and they begin to move past each other. The moment when you say goodbye to one, and hello to the next, without yet losing either.
And isn’t sorry and joy a lot like that? Saying goodbye to the past season and whom you loved in it, and saying hello to the rest of the journey. Moving forward without loving any less what you are leaving behind. The death of all things in winter, and standing with your toes on the edge of what is about to start seeding, growing, and emerging.
Love is a miraculous thing.
If you are experiencing sorrow today, I hope joy and comfort is being seeded for you as well, and that the wind carries deep, deep love, even as you read these words.
Beautiful analogy Debra on the changing seasons. Of winter and spring moving past each other and the seasons of our life. 🙂
thank you Carl, I appreciate that so much. The way seasons represent our emotions and life seasons is incredible. Thanks for reading along and Happy Easter.
